Admissions to Honors
University Honors admission decisions were released on April 2nd, 2015 for prospective freshmen who officially submitted a complete Honors application. This decision is available on the student's guest account.
University Honors admission decisions will be released in late April or early May for prospective transfer students. We appreciate your patience.
Admission for high school seniors:
Important dates for prospective freshmen (please note: there are no separate early decision/regular decision University Honors application deadlines):
- December 8, 2014- Freshman University Honors priority application deadline for recruitment scholarship consideration. This deadline has been extended from the original deadline of December 1st due to prior technical difficulties with the Honors application.
- January 23, 2015- Final University Honors application deadline for incoming freshmen.
Freshmen students interested in University Honors will apply online. Once the Undergraduate Admissions Office receives and processes a freshman application, a Guest Account will be created for the student (within 24-72 hours after the completed undergraduate admissions application has been received by the Admissions Office - plan your application timing accordingly). The Guest Account hosts various information and applications for the student, including the University Honors application. The incoming freshman student will access the Guest Account to apply to University Honors. The University Honors office is not in charge of Guest Account access or maintenance.
Anyone applying to the university may apply to University Honors. There are no minimum scores that a student must meet in order to apply. For freshmen entering University Honors in the fall 2014 semester the average GPA was 4.24 (with a range of 3.51-5.00), the average (Math+Verbal) SAT was 1353 (with a range of 1020-1600), and the average ACT composite score was between a 30 and a 31 (with a range of 19 - 36). Our application looks holistically at an applicant's experiences and considers quality of engagement over sheer quantity, self-awareness and reflection of involvement, and authenticity.
For those students who are not accepted into University Honors, our application volume prohibits reconsideration or specific feedback concerning applications. Students who do not enter Virginia Tech in Honors will have an opportunity to apply to University Honors after they have established themselves at the university and met the internal GPA requirement.
We strongly encourage all students to consider applying for a living learning community (LLC). Honors hosts two communities, Hillcrest and Honors Residential College at East Ambler Johnston Hall. Many Honors students also participate in other LLCs across campus. Visit http://www.housing.vt.edu/llc/ for information on housing options.
- January 1, 2015- Transfer University Honors priority application deadline for recruitment scholarship consideration.
- March 31, 2015 - Final University Honors application deadline for incoming transfer students (this date has been extended from the original February 23 deadline).
