Admissions to Honors
Admission to University Honors is by invitation only. Once you apply to Virginia Tech, University Honors will contact qualifying students and offer the opportunity to apply. The application requires the application form, a curriculum vita, a personal statement, and a letter of reference (see Reference form in panel to right).
Entering freshmen are invited to apply to University Honors if they hav a cummulative GPA of 3.70 (as reported on their high school transcript) and a minimum SAT score of 1350 (critical reading and mathematics) or a minimum ACT composite score of 30. Students who do not meet thise criteria upon entering Virginia Tech will have an opportunity to apply to University Honors after they have established themselves at the university and met the internal GPA requirement. Students transferring to Virginia Tech from another college or university who have at least a 3.50 GPA from their former institution are eligible to apply.
Freshmen looking to enter Honors should understand that admission to the program is based on an application specifically directed to University Honors and is completely separate from their application to Virginia Tech.
High school grade point average and test scores are only used to qualify students to apply to Honors.
Acceptance letters from University Honors will be mailed out in early April.
