Admissions to Honors
Admission for high school seniors
Please note: there are no separate early decision/regular decision University Honors application deadlines.
Freshman students interested in University Honors will apply online. Once the Undergraduate Admissions Office receives and processes a freshman application, a Guest Account will be created for the student (within 24-72 hours after the completed undergraduate admissions application has been received by the Admissions Office). The Guest Account hosts various information and applications for the student, including the University Honors application. The incoming freshman student will access the Guest Account to apply to University Honors. The University Honors office is not in charge of Guest Account access or maintenance.
The University Honors regular deadline is January 23rd, so be sure to apply to Virginia Tech in enough time to receive your Guest Account, gain access to the University Honors application, and complete the UH application before the 23rd. If you wish to be considered for UH recruitment scholarships, the scholarship priority deadline is December 1. Completed applications received by December 1 will be reviewed and considered for scholarships first.
Anyone applying to the university may apply to University Honors. There are no minimum scores that a student must meet in order to apply. For freshmen who entered University Honors in Fall 2014, the average GPA was 4.24 (with a range of 3.51-5.00), the average (Math+Verbal) SAT was 1353 (with a range of 1020-1600), and the average ACT composite score was between a 30 and a 31 (with a range of 19 - 36). Our application looks holistically at an applicant's experiences and considers the quality of engagement over sheer quantity, self-awareness and reflection on involvement, and authenticity.
Students who do not enter Virginia Tech in Honors will have an opportunity to apply to University Honors after they have established themselves at the university and met the internal GPA requirement.
We strongly encourage all students to consider applying for a living learning community (LLC). Honors hosts two communities, the Hillcrest Community and the Honors Residential College. Many Honors students also participate in other LLCs across campus. Visit http://www.housing.vt.edu/llc/ for information on housing options.
Important dates for Fall 2016 transfer students will be available soon.
Transfer students interested in University Honors will apply online. Once the Undergraduate Admissions Office receives and processes a transfer application, a Guest Account will be created for the student. The Guest Account hosts various information and applications for the student, including the University Honors application. The transfer student will access the Guest Account to apply to University Honors. The University Honors office is not in charge of Guest Account access or maintenance.
Transfer students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.60 or better at their previous institution.
Currently enrolled Virginia Tech students may apply to University Honors at the end of each spring semester, provided they have attained a 3.60 or better cumulative GPA and at least four (4) semesters remaining at Virginia Tech before they graduate.
A curriculum vitae, a personal statement, and an unofficial transcript must be uploaded to the online application. Students must have a 3.60 cumulative GPA or better to apply to University Honors.
The current student application for fall 2016 will reopen after May 2016
