University Honors

Admissions to Honors

Admission for high school seniors:

Important dates for prospective freshmen:

  • December 1 - deadline to submit Honors application for consideration of recruitment scholarships.
  • January 23 - deadline for applying to Honors

Access to the Honors application is available online through the admissions "guest account" after a student has submitted their applied to Virginia Tech through University Admissions.

Anyone applying to the university may apply to University Honors. There are no minimum scores that a student must meet in order to apply. For freshmen entering University Honors in the fall 2014 semester the average GPA was 4.24 (with a range of 3.51-5.00) and the average (Math+Verbal) SAT was 1353 (with a range of 1020-1600). Our application looks holistically at an applicants experiences and considers quality of engagement over sheer quantitiy, self-awareness and reflection of involvement, and authenticity.

For those students who are not accepted into University Honors, our application volume prohibits reconsideration or specific feedback concerning applications. Students who do not enter Virginia Tech in Honors will have an opportunity to apply to University Honors after they have established themselves at the university and met the internal GPA requirement.

We strongly encourage all students to consider applying for a living learning community (LLC). Honors hosts two communities, Hillcrest and Honors Residential College at East Ambler Johnston Hall. Many Honors students also participate in other LLCs across campus. Visit http://www.housing.vt.edu/llc/ for information on housing options.
