University Honors

Reading Seminars

Honors Reading Groups are small groups of Honors students (usually no more than 15) who gather once a week for a minimum of one hour to discuss books that are read during the semester, usually on one topic or of the same genre.  To participate in Reading Groups, any Honors student must have Sophomore Standing (30 credit hours or above). First semester freshmen are NOT eligible to participate.  Each reading group counts as one credit hour.  Any deviation must be approved in advance by the instructor.

Reading group topics are established at a meeting in the Hillcrest Dining Room at 5:30 pm on the first day of class. All students considering Honors Reading Seminar are encouraged to attend this meeting. You MUST be present at the meeting to lead a seminar. If you wish to participate in a group but cannot attend the organziational meeting, sign-up sheets are available outside Mr. Shrader's office (Hillcrest 116) during the first week of classes ( 8 am - 5 pm).

It is recommended, but not required, that you participate in Reading Seminar first before proposing to lead a seminar.
